The trick is to know how to use colours creatively to work wonders for you. If you want to get a feel of things before you actually choose a colour for your home, browse through décor magazines, observe the décor in showrooms and stores and see what kind of effect colours have on the ambience. Look at the different hues and shades and the magic they create when used in different combinations and contrasts.
While making colour choices, there are some things you need to keep in mind. Different colours have different effects. While some can stimulate your senses and evoke powerful feelings, there are others which have a calming effect on your mind. So choose colours depending on the mood you want to create.
Colours can also make a small room look larger or a low ceiling look higher. Using a single colour can bring cohesiveness to the entire layout. With minimal investment and a few colour changes, a room can be totally transformed. The key is to learn to use colours correctly.
Warm colours like red, orange and yellow can create a vibrant and cheerful space. Red represents feelings of love, power and desire. Yellow is for optimism, sunshine, and inspiration. Yellow and orange are a good colour choice for the children's bedroom. They can be used in living rooms and dining areas too to work up an appetite. However, they have to be used sparingly so that they don't seem too daunting.
Green and blue represent balance and harmony and could be used in study areas and bedrooms for a rather calm and serene atmosphere. Blue represents peace, harmony and tranquility. If you are a nature lover, green is the colour for you. It represents nature and the environment. It also stands for youthfulness and generosity. Green can be teamed with terracotta and other earthy colours for a natural appeal.
If you are not one for too many colours, you could even have one colour throughout the house, with different shades for variation. Keeping your walls subtle and understated works very well if you want to show off your artifacts, paintings, furniture or any home décor accessories. White is a natural choice for you if you prefer simplicity, humility and innocence. For a dramatic effect, you could use one portion of a wall as a focal point. Colour the wall in bright orange or vibrant red. Or you could go for a wall mural or even colourful patterns and designs and make a spectacular statement.
If you want to make some décor changes without spending too much, colours can come to your rescue. They can refresh you, brighten things around you and have a magical effect on you. They can evoke powerful feelings and bring cheer and joy to an otherwise dull setting. So, go for it and make sure you make the right choice.
